Untold stories

Not only do these photos attempt to capture the ambience of the situation, but they also attempt to capture a story hidden within. A story which draws the viewer into each photo, not as an outsider, but as an active participant in the scene. Have we not all experienced that feeling of "déjà vu" without being able to explain where it comes from, particularly when feelings or emotions are involved (like anxiety, vulnerability, doubt and so on)?

Like movie stills these pictures raise the question "what is going on?", which makes it hard for the viewer to remain passive. These situations may look familiar at first sight, however upon reflection, their interpretation is often more complex. Instinctively the viewer will tend to complete the story based on their own background and life experiences. Ultimately, what you see is determined by who you are!

This makes for exciting photography, at times even shocking to the viewer, particularly when he realizes he might well be the subject of the scene. By embracing a particular meaningful moment it can sometimes produce a somewhat sublime or surreal atmosphere above and beyond what was captured by the lens.
